The
Beginning Workbook Of Fluency,
Comprehension, & Word Recognition Activities
(290 pages)
Includes:
(1) Decodable Labels & Cut & Paste Sentence Pages
that combine sequential practice in reading and writing decodable words
with opportunities for students to learn more than 100 high-frequency
words through mixed-up sentence puzzles that the students cut, sort, and
paste to form sentences.
(2) A review page for each of the 45 Animated-Alphabet Characters.
These pages are designed to be used after introducing all of the
alphabet characters and their sounds and gestures. Students practice
reading and writing decodable words by labeling pictures that include
the sound that is being reviewed. Students then choose words from each
page, write sentences using the words, and illustrate their sentences.
(3) Beginning Pattern Song Puzzles for the shortest and
simplest of the songs from The Book Of Pattern
Reading,
Writing, & Singing Activities
are
included. These pages improve word recognition and fluency by
providing children with many opportunities to decode, read, and reread
mixed-up songs as they cut, sort, and paste words to form verses.
Writing skills and comprehension are developed as children rewrite each
song by substituting their words for key words in each song before
drawing pictures to illustrate each new verse.
(4) Expanded Labeling & Rhyming Pages move children from
labeling pictures with one word to labeling with phrases that include
adjectives and verbs. Children label the first set of rhyming pictures
from The Draw To Read And Write Book with nouns, color words,
size words, and other adjectives to form noun phrases. Children label
the second set of rhyming pages with nouns and verbs. Each page includes
rhyming pictures to label and a pattern rhyming song to read, sing, and
rewrite.
(5) Lesson Plans For Using Reading Manipulatives to
reinforce phonological awareness, decoding skills, sight word
recognition, sentence construction, and comprehension are included. The
lesson plans are designed to be used with the first set of pages from
the beginning workbook and with The Animated-Alphabet™ Cabinet of
Reading Manipulatives.
